Make Money Selling Coupons on eBay

February 8th, 2010 by Skip McGrath

I just finished a great new book: How To Sell Coupons on eBay and Really Make Money. I bought the book because selling coupons is one of the great niches I talk about in my book, Ten Little Known, Highly Profitable eBay Niche Markets. Basically I wanted to see if I had missed any techniques. It turns out that I hadn’t, but the author of this book, goes into quite a bit more detail.

Skip- I’ve always enjoyed and utilized your online selling advice, but I have to say I was disappointed with this one.

After seeing your post, I promptly purchased the “How To Sell Coupons on eBay and Really Make Money” book. It’s misleading in two ways: 1.) over half the book is a list of wholesalers for non-related products (e.g. electronics), so its clear that the author needed ‘filler’ to make the book a whopping 62 pages. Only about 1/2 the pages are dedicated to the ebay coupon business 2.) I did a little homework of my own, and aside from a handful of hard-to-get coupons (i.e. $10 off $20 at OfficeMax), there is actually very little margin/profit that can be realized doing this. The ‘volume’ sellers are (say) 20 coupons for a standard grocery item, at (say) $2.44 plus $.88 shipping. YOu’d have to do an awful lot of coupon cutting, organizing, scanning, and ebay-listing to see a significant income stream.

I don’t want to be all ’sour grapes’, but it would be difficult to extract significant value out of this initiative.
